Aldbourne Band has now established a Training Band, to encourage more youngsters to take up playing brass as a hobby and to continue the 150-year tradition of high quality brass-banding in the village.
If you are learning to play a brass instrument or percussion you’re welcome to join them at their training session at 7:00pm on Tuesdays at the Memorial Hall in Aldbourne.
If you used to play a brass instrument and would like your son or daughter to learn why not pop along with them and polish up your rusty playing skills. Not only will it encourage the youngsters but you may find brass banding is something you’d like to get back into. They may be able to help supply you with an instrument… but then again you may have your old one up in the loft!
The training band’s conductor is Janet Roe, whose music career, as a multi instrumentalist, started by her playing in and later conducting, brass bands.
During a teaching career of over 25 years, initially as a brass peripatetic and later as a general music specialist, she has been able to indulge her passion for collecting and learning to play new instruments.
Currently she plays with a wind band, deps with local big bands and performs as a soloist plus playing soprano in a saxophone quartet. She is also the conductor of the Wiltshire Saxophone Choir.
