The well-known and much-loved Aldbourne Carnival takes place over a two week period at the end of August and beginning of September each year.
Comprising many varied events and activities, the centrepiece of the festivities is the Aldbourne Carnival Procession, which is always held on the first Saturday in September.
This exuberant and colourful parade is the product of many hours (often spent in secret, and late at night) of planning and production, where the mix of ingenuity and imagination is matched by the skills of prop and costume-making.
Thanks to these sterling efforts, this annual spectacle draws cheers (and donations) from the hundreds of spectators that line the procession route each year, irrespective of the weather!
This year, 2015, will be the 100th renewal of this popular village event. If you have any ideas on how this very special year can be celebrated, or you just wish to lend a hand, the contact details for the Carnival Committee are below. They would be delighted to hear from you!
To give you a flavour of the occasion the programme for last year’s Carnival is available for download via the link below.
Photos and memorabilia from previous Carnivals are being collected and copied into a Carnival archive by Jo Hutchings. It is hoped that displays can be put together in the village for all to see. For more information, please contact Jo via email, see details below.
Watch out for Carnival 2015 news and events here on the Aldbourne Net, in the Dabchick and on posters around the village!
