A Winter's Journey
Here is an update from Jo Hutchings – Good Neighbour Coordinator based in Aldbourne, Froxfield and Ramsbury:
Many thanks for the warm welcome extended to me as the new Wiltshire Good Neighbour Coordinator working in Aldbourne, Axford, Froxfield and Ramsbury.
This is a new scheme established to help our older residents in rural areas live safe, comfortable and independent lives. I aim to provide information about the range of voluntary, statutory and commercial services available in our local area. If you, or somebody you know, is worrying about keeping warm, the digital switchover that will take place in February, home security, fire safety or has any other concern and would benefit from a little bit of extra information, for a free and confidential chat please contact me, Jo Hutchings (see contact details below) or the Wiltshire Good Neighbours team at Community First in Devizes on 01380 732828.
Even though mid-winter day is now behind us there’s still some cold weather to come!
Wiltshire Good Neighbours have a new free service called “A Winter’s Journey” – the journey starts with a quick look at how you might save money on your energy bills, including giving you plenty of energy saving tips for around the house. Regular visits from your co-ordinator will ensure you have the security and support you need to stay healthy and warm. Your local Good Neighbour Co-ordinator is here to help you through it all especially if there is a sudden frosty spell or snow fall.
Age UK Wiltshire has a wealth of advice to offer on how to “Spread the Warmth”; Wiltshire Good Neighbours are also partners in the “Community Foundation for Wiltshire & Swindon campaign: Surviving Winter . If you are an older person struggling to pay your fuel bills and need additional support to heat your home and eat properly in the cold weather a “Surviving Winter” grant may help.
Depending on your circumstances you may be able to apply for additional support and applications may also be considered from other individuals in need who are disabled or suffering extreme hardship (see poster download below for more details).
