Aldbourne Band Heritage Project

Aldbourne Band’s recent concert at Immanuel United Reform Church, Swindon was topped off with a very exciting announcement – the formation of the Aldbourne Band Heritage Project.

Funded by a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) All Our Stories Grant, this project, led by the Friends of Aldbourne Band, has been given £7,700 to secure and publish the 150 year story of Aldbourne Brass Band, which was originally formed in 1860 and is presently ranked at 48 in the world.

The Aldbourne Band Heritage Project will digitise photos and documents, collect reminiscences and deposit them at the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre and in the village of Aldbourne for future generations to access. Summaries will also be available for presentations and events and for schools’ local history work.

For detailed information about the project and the funding please download the press release via the link below. The Friends of Aldbourne Band will be holding a Heritage Project Open Day at Aldbourne Memorial Hall from 10:00am to 1:00pm Saturday 27th April 2013.

At the concert James Sheppard thanked everyone who has been involved with the project thus far, and invited anyone with memories, old programmes, photographs, newspaper clippings, magazine articles, old instruments, notices or banners, to contact the Heritage Project Manager Mr Gavin Dixon (Secretary of the Friends of Aldbourne Band) using the details shown below.
