The Aldbourne Defib Project - February Update

As some of you will have seen, the fourth Defibrillator is now in position in Lottage Road, a hundred yards short of the Alma Road junction, on the right hand side. Black & Wright builders have placed it on a sturdy backing board, which also has space for notices. Thank you again, Terry Wright.

Scottish & Southern Energy is providing the necessary power, free of charge, and Tim & Ed Pope have kindly done all the fitting as a service to the community. That completes our plan for four Defibs to service the village, each with its own dedicated ‘caretaker’.

Photos showing the position of all four defibs can be seen here on the Aldbourne Village Gallery.

You will be interested to know that they have already been called upon on several occasions by the Great Western Ambulance Service, in expectation of cardiac complications. There has not yet been any serious illness but it is reassuring to know that our equipment is ready to be used when needed.

We are planning to re-run CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) training classes, to refresh our memories and instruct more villagers in the use of the Defibs and CPR. These will take place in the Memorial Hall on:

  • Saturday 22nd March, 2:00 – 4:00pm
  • Saturday 12th April, 10:00am – 12:00pm

Watch for posters!

Finally, we also have a valuable addition to our training in Dr Sarah Bates, a resident in Aldbourne, who is a paediatrician with wide experience. She has kindly offered to run sessions in paediatric basic life support/CPR, and how to deal with common emergencies, such as the management of choking. This would be of great benefit to all parents, teachers, child minders, etc, and we plan to build this into our training sessions.
