Funds sought for improved Church heating

For those who missed the funding appeal launch in the church last week, please see details of the project below, courtesy of the Friends of St. Michael’s Church:

St. Michael’s Church has stood at the centre of the village of Aldbourne and its activities for centuries. Although it is primarily a place of Christian worship it has great importance to the local community and is regularly used for school events, village concerts, plays and other functions. Its potential as a large community venue is considerable.

It is the role of the Friends to help the Parochial Church Council ( PCC) with the funding of the maintenance and improvement of the church building and facilities. We have sought to do this through annual subscriptions, donations and through the proceeds from various events that we organize.

In the first few years we funded the new kitchen and toilet facilities in addition to basic maintenance work. Over the past couple of years we have provided the funding for the replacement of the old boiler as the first phase of a new heating system. We have also funded the design work for the subsequent phases including the cost of seeking and obtaining the necessary approvals from the Diocese.

Those of us who have been inside the church during the winter months know just how cold it can be and will therefore understand the need for an adequate heating system. The beneficiaries of this warmer environment will be both those attending services and those attending village activities. We also hope to attract an even broader use of the church as a community building.

The PCC have now received estimates for the various works required to complete the new heating system and have agreed with the Friends the level of funding required. In addition to the heating system, the design of a new weather proof inner porch has begun to ensure that we don’t waste heat unnecessarily. We have as a result made allowance for this in determining our funding target of £30,000.

This is an amount that cannot be met out of our normal fund raising activities. Hence the reason for a special fund raising campaign.

This campaign was launched at St. Michael’s Church on 23rd November with drawings and other information made available to the public. If you would like to view any of this information please contact Simon Hamilton-Eddy, see details below.
