Lottage Road culvert works

You may have noticed the ongoing works to the culvert in Lottage Road. Please see the following update from DIG and the Parish Council as to exactly what is happening:

Following the extensive (and extended) flooding in the lower part of Lottage Road last winter, which created a lot of inconvenience for residents there, and also contributed to the overflowing sewers in the centre of the village as groundwater and surface water got into the sewers, Wiltshire Council have agreed to improve the flow of the Bourne and draining of groundwater in the area.

As a first step they are replacing the culvert under Goddard’s Lane with a new larger one, to be positioned at a lower level. At the same time they are clearing the open sections of the Bourne just above and below Goddard’s Lane. Depending on the success of this in improving flow from the bottom end of Lottage Road, further work is likely to be needed upstream on the culverted section of the Bourne which runs from the edge of the village down Lottage Road. The timing and extent of this will depend on an assessment by Wiltshire Council’s consultant engineers and the availability of funding.

The Drainage Improvement Group (DIG) will be pressing for further action to improve the drains and sewers in the village, but this is at least a step in the right direction.

Further discussion on the subject can be found on the forum: a) on this thread in Village Issues and b) on this thread in the Parish Council section (thank you Pauline and Karen!)
