Messy Church request from Revd. Sue Rodd

Please see the following message from Revd. Sue Rodd:

Our Messy Church is blossoming – but we need help to keep it flourishing…

This includes setting up a rota of helpers so we can plan ahead sensibly. It’s certainly not necessary to commit to helping every month; even four times a year would be wonderful (although if you enjoy it as much as we do, you may find that you want to be involved more often!). You can arrange to swop if you can’t make your slot. These are the roles:

  • Setting up beforehand (~30 minutes)
  • Looking after a pre-planned activity (e.g., crafts, games, quizzes and food-making) and talking to the families who come (~3 hours)
  • Planning, cooking and serving refreshments and a light meal
  • Leading the worship (15 minutes, plus preparation)
  • Tidying up and putting away tables etc afterwards (~30 minutes)

Or, if you really enjoy taking part in the activities with your own children, perhaps your partner, older children or grandparent(s) might like to be part of it and help? This gives us all the opportunity to learn and grow, as we have really great fun, pray and eat together.

The idea of Messy Church started in Portsmouth in 2004 and now runs in nearly 20 countries worldwide. The first session here was held in Aldbourne in October 2010 in the Methodist Chapel Hall, funded jointly by the Methodist and Anglican Churches in Aldbourne. We started up in Ramsbury in April 2012, and we now run a Messy Church session every month, mostly alternating between the two sites, on behalf of the Whitton Team and the two Methodist Chapels. Families come from right across the area and further afield.

Each session is aimed to include things that will appeal to family members of every age (0 – 100), and to provide a safe but exciting place where young and old can learn together about the most important Bible stories and Christian beliefs, have fun making and doing things (sometimes in very messy ways!), and then worship and eat together.

Sue
