More awards for Aldbourne Band!

It’s yet more accolades for the multi award-winning Aldbourne Band.

Members achieved an outstanding result at the annual Gloucestershire Brass Band Association Annual Test Piece and March Contest.

The event, at Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire, involved 21 participating bands and Aldbourne were awarded first place for their March – Mephistopheles by Shipley Douglas – with 193 points.

The second piece they played was Red Priest by Philip Wilby which was written for the 2011 British Open.

This is the test piece that the band will play in the Grand Shield section at the Spring Festival, Blackpool in May 2013. This piece was awarded 192 points and a second place, following Hyde with 193 points.

Two other awards were scooped that day – Best Bass section and Best Percussion section.

Contest adjudicator Steve Pritchard-Jones said: “Aldbourne Band played with style and precision with the basses producing a fine and full sound.”

Band chairman James Sheppard said: “It was a great feeling to do so well and we are looking forward to building on this success in the run up to the National Area Finals in Torquay next March, and the Spring Festival in May.”
