Aldbourne Band - Dan Smith wins Kerton Cup!

Aldbourne Band launched their Training Band just 18 months ago and already many of the youngsters are showing great promise and have improved tremendously.

The Training Band performed in June at the traditional series of Pond Concerts held in Aldbourne on the first Sunday of each summer month. This was their first outing at a Pond Concert and over 400 people applauded loudly when Conductor Janet Roe took the baton.

Cornet player Dan Smith (aged 9) seems to be following in his parents footsteps – Carl and Claire play for the highly ranked Flowers Band. He was awarded the Kerton Cup which is given to the Most Improved Player. It was presented by John Adey, the Band’s retiring President (see photo).

Dan said “I was really surprised but very pleased to be chosen”. Dan lives in Swindon but goes to Aldbourne every Tuesday evening to play in the Training Band.

The Band is actively seeking new youngsters to play with the Training Band, so to find out what you can do come along to the next Pond Concert, at 7:15pm on Sunday July 7th in Aldbourne, the home of the Band for the last 153 years. It is suitable for all ages and no charge is made. A collection bucket is passed to help secure the future of this historic, championship band.

Raffle tickets will also be on sale for the Grand Summer Draw to be held at the Proms Concert 4:00pm, Sunday 4th August on the Green. Local business have been very supportive and prizes include one nights B&B at The Bell, Ramsbury for 2 people, £100 cash from West Street Motors and a Sunday Carvery for 4 at The Crown.
