Record Breakers - the Summer Reading Challenge 2015

Every year, thousands of families all over the country are involved in the UK’s biggest reading event for children in libraries, the Summer Reading Challenge, coordinated by The Reading Agency.

In 2015, the Challenge is called Record Breakers, in league with Guinness World Records, and it will run in Wiltshire libraries from Saturday 11th July to Saturday 5th September (or 13th July to 6th September for Aldbourne readers).

The aim of the challenge is to get children to read six books from their library during the summer holidays (a time when there is often a dip in reading progress). Everyone who signs up for the Summer Reading Challenge can keep track of the books they read and receive encouragement to keep reading all summer long. It’s great fun for kids and what’s more, it doesn’t cost a penny to join.

The children can read any books they like – fact, fiction, joke books, picture books – it’s up to them. Audio books count too! As long as you’re borrowing them from the library, they all count. Incentives this year include a neon green wristband, scratch and sniff stickers, and a medal plus certificate on completion.
