Thames Water - Your Help is Needed!

Please see the following message from Jim Oliver of the Aldbourne Drainage Improvement Group:

Thames Water will have contractors working in the village from Monday 12th August to test the integrity of our sewers.

Recent changes in the Law regarding sewers means that Thames Water are now responsible for all sewers downstream of where the sewers of two or more properties join together. Previously these were classified as private sewers and Thames did not map them.

This will sometimes happen in the gardens of properties (e.g. Grasshills) and Thames will need to access those gardens to find the sewers. Thames also viewed Khandahar, Cook Close, Cook Road and Alma Road as private and will now need to map all those areas amongst others.

If you see their contractors near you and you know where your sewers are, it would help us to get the mapping correct if you point out to them where manhole covers are and what else you know.

This is part of the long term aim to help reduce flooding in Aldbourne. Your help would be appreciated in granting Thames Water’s contractors the freedom to investigate fully. Please help by passing on this information to other villagers.
