The future of Rectory Wood - Ideas welcomed

Rectory Wood is a protected amenity wood situated in the heart of Aldbourne and managed by the Parish Council.

Apart from intermittent interventions it has largely been neglected over the years and its present state is far from satisfactory.

Although the PC has begun to undertake a more active role by removing trees that were a danger to property and removing some very weak trees, the wood is in an unkempt state with thick and tangled undergrowth and many trees that require specialist attention. There is a need to manage the wood in its entirety, for all the flora and fauna, not just the trees.

The PC is considering putting the wood under a professional management contract. However, before this it will be necessary to prepare a five year plan for implementation.

Before formulating this plan the PC would like to get opinions and suggestions from the community as to how they would like to see this wood developed and managed on a sustainable basis for the benefit of all the community.

If you would like to make a comment or suggestion please do so by email to the Parish Clerk (see details below) who will ensure that they are taken into consideration.

Deadline for submissions is 24th May 2013.
