The Aldbourne Defib Project - Spring Update
The project is alive and kicking!
As many people will have seen, a distinctive yellow Defib box has been installed on the wall of The Crown in The Square. This is the 50th Defib Community Heartbeat box in the area. A second Defib has been installed on the Old Changing Rooms in Farm Lane. Both boxes are illuminated by lights activated automatically to ensure the key pads are clearly visible at night.
Thanks to an important grant from the Marlborough Area Board – and also to further generous donations, including those from Mr and Mrs Hobby and Mr and Mrs Price – we are able to fund two more Defibs. These will be mounted in Whitley Road and Lottage Road. We still have to organise an appropriate power supply for the Lottage site.
Meanwhile there have been three lively, fun and valuable training sessions on CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) and on the Defibs themselves. These were run by Richard Schofield of the Community Heartbeat Trust and were very well supported, with an amazing attendance of 90 on 28th April in the Memorial Hall.
We are very proud to say that 10% of the village have now had some CPR/Defib training and ‘joined the elite club’, says Richard Schofield. These were the best attended sessions in the whole area for the CHB Trust. Well done Aldbourne!
All the Defibs have caretakers whose duty it is to make weekly checks, ensuring the equipment is in good working order and has not been tampered with. Finally, following the last training session, nine village members expressed an interest in extending their knowledge and becoming First Responders for our area.
For further information, or to make comments or suggestions, please visit the website (http://www.communityheartbeat.org.uk) or contact any of the five team members shown below. There will be an additional training session in Marlborough on 14th June, see this diary article for details.
