The original village website for Aldbourne in Wiltshire, UK

It’s

Space Hop launched successfully!

Space Hop – It’s one giant leap into libraries!

Fifty three children climbed aboard the space ship at Aldbourne Library yesterday Monday 19th July – but don’t worry, there is plenty of room for more!

The 2010 Summer Reading Challenge – called Space Hop – is the 12th annual challenge. We are inviting children all over the UK to help the young crew of the Ex Libris to set up the first library on the Moon! Visit http://www.spacehop.org.uk for information about the challenge, authors and games – the journey lasts all summer!

This year’s artwork has a graphic novel-styling, created by Skulduggery Pleasant illustrator Tom Percival. Collect a fold-out poster with a moving image card, and reach three clear achievable stages, which are: 1. Blast Off! 2. Space Chase 3. Lunar Landing. Some of the collectable stickers are blank speech bubbles for you to contribute your own content to the comic strip adventure.

Come and join this year’s exciting Reading Challenge at Aldbourne Library – opening hours are Mondays and Thursdays 2:00 – 5:00pm and 6:00 – 8:00pm. Don’t worry if you’re not a member – you can join any time and it’s FREE – and you can read any books you like to complete the challenge. Open to children aged 4 -12 – but younger children can complete a “Space Crawl”!

Aldbourne Library will be open every Wednesday morning throughout August so you can come and talk about your books and collect your stickers as and when you want. You can still come on Mondays and Thursdays too!

We are also holding an “Aliens Love Underpants” activity morning at the Methodist Church Hall on Tuesday 3rd August – come and join the space fun! (Tickets available soon at the library).
