The original village website for Aldbourne in Wiltshire, UK

It’s

CAN/Library - village online access for all!

The CAN internet café in the Square (next to the Crown) is now open on Friday mornings between 10:00am and 12 noon, with volunteers on hand to offer advice and support to access the internet, and to help you get to know your own laptop or digital camera.

No booking required, just stop by for a chat; there’s no charge for the sessions, but donations to support the running costs of the CAN are always welcome!

For more information on how the CAN is helping more people get on-line please visit the Wiltshire Online website.

Remember that the CAN is open to everyone: villagers and visitors alike. All welcome!

Aldbourne Library also has free internet access, supported by staff and volunteers. There is now a volunteer led session at the library on Tuesday mornings from 10 till 12 in addition to the usual opening hours on Monday and Thursdays. The Aldbourne Library has many on-line resources: including the Ancestry Library Edition for family history research. The on-line resources at Wiltshire Libraries web page gives more details.

The facilities at the Aldbourne Library and the CAN also provide the opportunity to view the Aldbourne Archive. Primarily a digital collection, the Aldbourne Archive aims to retain copies of photographs, documents and images of artefacts as a virtual museum for the village. Items from the Archive are often used for exhibitions and displays at village events. A small collection entitled “Heart of a Village” was installed in the Long Room Gallery at the Wiltshire Heritage Museum in Devizes during the Autumn/Winter 2011. The Facebook page for the Aldbourne Archive, and the Aldbourne Community Forum linked to http://www.aldbourne.net has helped many former villagers to reminisce about their memories of the village, and to trace their family history.

Aldbourne Archive is on Facebook. You don’t need a Facebook Account to view the Aldbourne Archive pages. The Aldbourne Archive even Tweets!

Please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to find out how to purchase copies of the Millennium Book of Aldbourne, the Aldbourne Oral History Project and Gathering of Eagles by Clive Stevens which tells the story of the US Airborne in Aldbourne. Second hand copies of Heart of a Village published by Ida Gandy in 1975 are also available.
